Description

Data2Bio Our Managing Partner, Patrick S. Schnable, is a Baker Professor of Agronomy at Iowa State University, where he leads a vigorous research team that emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to understanding plant biology. His own expertise is in the areas of genetics, molecular biology, genomics and bioinformatics, but he collaborates with researchers in diverse fields, including biochemistry, plant breeding, plant physiology, bioinformatics, and computer science. He has authored ~100 peer-reviewed papers including more than 15 papers utilizing next-generation sequencing data in 2007-2010. He was also the lead author of the publication of maize genome published in the journal Science. Schnable has twice been elected to the Maize Genetics Executive Committee and served as its chair during portions of both terms. He is frequently invited to present his research at national (N=30, since 2005) and international (N=21, since 2005) venues including plenary and keynote talks. He also frequently consults for the seed industry. He has served as a member of the scientific advisory boards of several large National Science Foundation (NSF)-funded plant genome projects and has been invited to testify at National Academy of Sciences (NAS) committees. He serves as an associate editor for the prestigious journal PLoS Genetics (Impact Factor 9.5). He was elected a Member-at-Large of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) Committee of the Agriculture, Food and Renewable Resources Section and was recently been appointed to the Public Affairs Committee of the American Society of Plant Biologists (ASPB). In recognition of his many scientific achievements he was appointed a Chang Jiang Scholar Professor at China Agriculture University (Beijing) in 2009.
