The University of Texas Health Care at Tyler State Senate Bill 1300, passed in 1977, became a landmark piece of legislation for East Texas: through it, the Health Science Center became a component of The University of Texas System. That bill authorized the Health Science Center to pursue its current three-fold mission of excellent patient care and community health, comprehensive education, and innovative research.
